Put down the shovel and pick up your fishing rod!
The Fish Hatchery at Powder Mills Park has announced their pre-Derby community activities, a sure sign that spring is in the air! The public is invited to join us for two free, all-ages events:
Saturday, March 6, 2010: FREE Fly-Tying Demonstration and Casting Clinic
The public is invited to participate in a free fly-tying demonstration and casting clinic between 8 and 11 a.m., thanks to the generosity of Joe Triolo and friends. Learn how lure colors and textures attract different species and ages of fish. Try your hand at fly casting with expert instructors. This event is sponsored by the Riedman Foundation.
Saturday, March 13, 2010: FREE Fish Tales at the Fish Hatchery
Share your favorite fishing stories over some coffee; hear some that are hard to believe. Bring friends and make some new ones. Captain Bill Kelley of the Mighty Angler, will present a slide show and tell us about the ones that did and did not get away. The event takes place between 10:00 a.m. and noon and is made possible through the generosity of Fish-On Charters Inc. and the Riedman Foundation.
Events will take place at the Hatchery building, 115 Park Road in Powder Mills Park. Hatchery staff will also be on hand to teach young anglers about the fish being raised at the hatchery.
There are no fees associated with these events, but reservations are recommended. Please call the Fish Hatchery at 585-586-1670 to register, or for more information. You can also find information about upcoming activities and news by joining the Fish Hatchery at Powder Mills Park Facebook group.
Save the date!
The Riedman Foundation Opening Day Trout Derby to benefit the Fish Hatchery at Powder Mills Park is scheduled for Thursday, April 1, 2010 between 7:00 a.m. and noon.
