Operations

The primary goal of the Hatchery is to provide a quality angling experience for area fisherman by ensuring an ample population of native species of fish. The Hatchery operates year-round. Day-to-day management is under the direction and supervision of full-time staff members. Many of the conservation and hatchery practices employed here reflect the professional training acquired by staff members through affiliations with Finger Lakes Community College.

Kids of all ages are encouraged to come enjoy the outdoors, feed the fish and learn about the various species raised. Staff members are available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and from 9 a.m.  to 1 p.m.  most weekends to assist with educational initiatives ranging from the occasional visitor questions to more formal field trips for local schools and non-profit groups. The staff encourages people to become involved as both patrons and volunteers.

Fishing is not permitted at the hatchery itself; however fish from the hatchery are used to stock the surrounding rivers and streams which in turn are the sites for multiple fishing derbies held throughout the season.
